Why do we keep spelling out the word "though" even though "tho" would suffice? The same goes with "through." Can't we just say "thru?" I mean, is there some Congress we have to go through to appeal the way we spell things? "Though" and "through" are so similarly spelled which leads to confusion, not to mention some people don't know how to properly spell them. It really isn't about dumbing ourselves down, I just think it's completely unnecessary and we should really simplify them. China is simplifying their characters, so can't we do the same?

You make a valid point.

What about the whole upper/lower case thing? I get kind of tired of using the shift button sometimes, what is the point of upper/lower case anyway?

internet slang should just be incorporated into our english papers by simplfying ur and u're...also "prolly" instead of "probably" would save me from typing an extra 2 letters=P

I've seen some people around xanga type "threw" instead of "thru" tho=D the most irritating thing is when people cannot differentitate between "your" and "you're"

there's never no damn way to tell what the hell your going to write about. you are my favorite person to read on xanga even tho we don't agree much. I don't think we have to agree to enjoy eachothers writings. You trip me the fuck out.

1 - there is no English congress -- if the U.S. decided to change through to thru, then it would create mass-confusion among the other English-speaking countries (unlike Chinese). Besides, simplification and the frustration with proper English is already manifesting itself in places like hip hop and internet typing.

2 - China developed it's simplified characters a long time ago, but Taiwan and HK still use the traditional format regardless of that.
